Nikos & Katerina

Many people have donated countless hours of their time to Home for All, but no one as much as the founders
Nikos and Katerina. They are the heart and soul of the organization. Every single day since 2015.

One afternoon in early 2014, when Nikos was visiting shops to sell the fish he caught earlier that day, he came across a group of refugees who had just landed on the shores of Lesvos. Wet, hungry and exhausted from their treacherous journey, they were grateful to be alive but in need of a lot of support. Moved by their journey, Nikos used the money from his fish sale to buy them food. Later, he went home and he told his wife Katerina about his experience, and she got to work right away in the kitchen, preparing home-cooked meals to bring them.

Hours later, with their car packed with food, clothes, and blankets they searched the area where Nikos left them. Unsuccessful in their mission, they learned that the refugees had been detained by the local police and weren’t allowed out, and Nikos and Katerina, nor their food were allowed in. Stumped, they drove back to the beach where they always did their best thinking and reflected on the situation in Lesvos. They remained there until nightfall when suddenly they heard voices coming from the water as a raft approached shore. Quickly, Nikos and Katerina helped the people to safety and gave them the blankets, clothes, and meals they had prepared. After this experience they never looked back.
